Historical Sites Around Edinburgh, Scotland

My visit to Scotland was short and to be exact I had about nine days to relax and explore this country’s, historical sites and fairy-tale like locations such as Loch Ness. With limited time and the desire to see as much as possible, I decided to start out my vacation with a visit to Edinburgh the capital city of Scotland. Proved to be a wise choice and a perfect location to learn about the history of Scotland. The town is full of historic architecture, restaurants, and famous kilt shops.

Exploring Edinburgh historical sites:

While in Edinburgh I mainly decided to explore one of the two, historical sites. The Old Town and not the Georgian New Town that is full of fancy gardens and well-preserved 18th and 19th-century building giving you a glimpse of the upscale life a few centuries back. With only two days in Edinburg, I just had enough time to explore the Old Town. A very lively area paved with old gray stones, narrow alleyways, and centuries-old structures. However, what attracts crowds of tourists to this part of the city is the castle, located on top of an extinct volcano.

What you can expect to find and see at the Edinburgh Castle:

Most medieval forts have an excellent location, the highest point overlooking the city center. A few hundred years ago it was a military strategy, and now tourists are provided with the best city views. To no surprise, Edinburgh castle has that prime location and excellent viewpoint. Besides the fabulous views, this castle has a few museums (free admission), a whisky shop, The Redcoat Café and the Tea Rooms in the Queen Anne building. historical sites
