Self-isolation is easier said than done, but at a global crisis level, quarantine is needed and required. While health workers and emergency responders do their job, we must stay home, leaving only for necessary reasons. But that begs the question: what are we to do when most of us don’t work from home? Such as my New York friends that work as realtors, store managers, and in the food industry. For them, this time is especially challenging, but we must keep our heads high, stay positive, and work with what we have.
Work From Home:
For those fortunate enough to be allowed to work from home, stick to your routine. Get up at the same time, eat breakfast and dress the part even if you aren’t leavening the house. Don’t forget to finish work as you usually would, to spend time with your family. All daily routines can help cope with sudden unforeseen change. I as well stick to a Monday to Friday routine; I find it helpful with self-esteem, and motivation.
14 Days at Home:
For me, it’s quite easy to take on the task of isolation. I work from home and only need to leave if traveling for work engagements or photoshoots. That is why I decided to write this post on how to spend this time at home. Here are a couple of “what do” during your quarantine.
Start with Self-Love:
No matter if we are working from home or have to go to work work, we all need a little TLC. For me, that means a hot bubble bath and a face mask. Here are my current favorite face products and tools all under $50:
What to Read:
My generation can type a text message faster than the wind, but can we settle down in bed with a good book? Well, two weeks in quarantine is the perfect time to find out. Chose well here are the books:
Hot Tea and a Thrilling Movie:
Sometimes it takes a nail-biting thriller or a comedy to take your mind off things. Here are some classics to watch or rewatch:
1. Bird Cage 2. Bridesmaids 3. Jumanji 1995 3. Pulp Fiction 4. The Mask 5. As Good As It Gets 6. GoodFellas 7. Mrs Doubtfire 8. Trading Place 9. Forrest Gump 10. 12 Angry Men 11. Where The Heart Is 12. Little Women 13. Slumdog Millionaire 14. Life is Beautiful 15. Léon: The Professional
Netflix shows to Watch:
1. Locke & Key , 2. Stranger Things 3. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina 4. Sex Education 5. The Witcher 6. Peaky Blinders 7. The 8.Crown 9. Black Mirror 10. Sisters
1. David’s Tea is the buddha’s blend (my favorite). 2. David’s Tea organic detox ( for some reason I love the smell and taste of this tea) 3. David’s Tea organic super ginger ( Cold and Defence tea).
Start Spring cleaning:
Two or more weeks in isolation is the perfect time to clean your closet. I spend half a day reorganizing and cleaning out my closet. The process was refreshing, and as my mom says, “if your home is clean then your head is clear.”
Daily Exercise:
Many of us that have dogs can’t ignore their nature’s call. Combine walking your dog with a bit of exercise. For example, wear weights around your ankles or hands for that extra kick. If you don’t have a dog and have no reason to go outside, try yoga (it help to clear your mind and focus better) or do some gardening. All of this might not be the gym workouts you are used to, but what matters is you are moving and just sitting.
To all stay home, stay safe, and be kind to one another.
